Italian coffee by format
Italian espresso beans and other whole beans for a home grinder or a bean-to-cup machine are in whole coffee beans. Espresso grind is in espresso ground coffee. For a moka pot, coffee labelled for moka is the safer start. Capsules from these brands are compatible with the system named on the pack. Nespresso, Nestlé and Nescafé did not make them. We do not stock Vertuo capsules.

Lavazza is an Italian roaster, founded in Turin in 1895. The Lavazza range covers whole beans, mostly 1 kg, including Super Crema, Espresso Crema e Aroma, Qualità Rossa, Qualità Oro, Espresso Italiano Classico (100% Arabica), city blends such as Riviera di Chiaia Napoli and Trastevere Roma, and more. Ground coffee comes in 250 g bags and tins: Qualità Rossa, Qualità Oro, Il Mattino, Crema e Gusto (Forte, Ricco, Dolce), Suerte, Bourbon, Espresso Italiano Classico and decaf lines including Decaf Classico and DEK Intenso. Qualità Rossa ground, in our moka ground collection, works in a moka pot, a filter machine or an espresso machine. Espresso Italiano Classico is 100% Arabica from Central and South America.
Capsules compatible with Nespresso Original come in packs of 10, including Qualità Rossa, Qualità Oro, Crema e Gusto Classico, Crema e Gusto Risveglio Forte, Espresso Maestro Ristretto, Espresso Maestro Intenso, Classico Decaf, Tierra Bio-Organic Africa, and Espresso Gourmet Caramel and Chocolate. Illy
Illy was founded in Trieste in 1933 and still roasts its coffee there. In the Illy collection, capsules compatible with Nespresso Original include Classico Espresso, Intenso Espresso, Classico Lungo, Forte Espresso and Decaffeinato, plus 3-packs and 100-capsule bundles. Ground coffee includes Classic Roast 250 g (100% Arabica, nine origins), Decaffeinato ground espresso, Classico Filter ground and Arabica Selection Brazil. For the moka pot, Tostato Forte and Tostato Intenso are 250 g each. Whole beans in 250 g include Classic Roast, Intenso Bold Roast, Decaffeinato and Arabica Selection Ethiopia, Brasile, Guatemala and Costa Rica, plus Classico 3 kg. ESE pods: Intenso, 40 pods.
Iperespresso capsules are Illy's own system: Classico, Forte, Intenso, and Arabica Selection Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia and Guatemala, 18 capsules each. Saquella
Saquella Caffè Classico ESE pods are made in Italy. Ground espresso includes Gran Gusto Espresso 250 g, 100% Arabica Espresso 250 g, Bella Crema, Intenso and Grand Cru in 200 g and 500 g, Decaf 200 g, and 250 g tins (Bar Italia Gran Crema, Bar Italia Gran Gusto, Espresso Oro, Gourmet Oro, Arabica 100%). Gran Gusto works in a moka pot or an espresso machine. Filter ground is Caffè Classico Filter Coffee 500 g, in filter ground coffee. Capsules compatible with Nespresso Original include Bella Crema Espresso Amabile, Grand Cru Espresso Ricco, Intenso, 100% Arabica Espresso and Velluto, plus 30-capsule packs of Grand Cru, Intenso and Bella Crema. Caffè Borbone Crema Superiore capsules are a South Italy blend, roasted in Naples. Capsules compatible with Nespresso Original, 10 capsules: Crema Superiore, Crema Classica, Espresso Intenso, Lungo 100% Arabica and Espresso Decaf. Capsules compatible with Dolce Gusto, 16 capsules: Crema Superiore, Crema Classica, Lungo Sublime 100% Arabica and Decaf. Whole beans include Crema Superiore, Crema Classica, Espresso Intenso, 100% Arabica, Miscela Blu, Miscela Rosso and Miscela Top at 1 kg, Crema Classica and Crema Superiore at 500 g, and Miscela Dek decaf at 1 kg. Kimbo is Italian, and several of its blends are Neapolitan, such as Espresso Napoli and Espresso Barista Napoli. Capsules compatible with Nespresso Original, 10 capsules: Espresso Barista Napoli, Espresso Barista 100% Arabica and Espresso Barista Decaf. Capsules compatible with Dolce Gusto, 16 capsules: Espresso Napoli, Espresso Intenso and Espresso Barista. Ground espresso, 250 g: Aroma Gold 100% Arabica, Espresso Napoli (bag and tin) and Intenso. Espresso Napoli and Aroma Gold, both in the moka collection, work in an espresso machine or a moka pot. Filter ground is Filtro, 1 kg. Whole beans, 1 kg: Extra Cream, Prestige and Top Flavour. Caffè Vergnano
Caffè Vergnano, an Italian roaster, dates back to 1882. Its collection has capsules compatible with Nespresso Original: Intenso, plus Nobile, Cremoso and 100% Arabica from the Riserva Torino line, and Espresso Cremoso in a 100-capsule pack. Capsules compatible with Dolce Gusto: Intenso, 12 capsules. Ground espresso, 250 g: Espressocasa, Anticabottega and Original. Espressocasa suits home espresso machines and moka pots. Whole beans, 1 kg: 800 Espresso Crema, 1000 Mille Extra Dolce, 600 Seicento Classico and 700 Espresso Ricco. ESE pods: Napoli, 150 pods.
Segafredo
Segafredo Espresso Roma beans are crafted in Italy. Capsules compatible with Nespresso Original, 10 capsules: Classico, Intenso, Decaffeinato, Peru, Ristretto and Dubai Style. Whole beans: Speciale Espresso 1 kg, Napoli Espresso 1 kg, and Espresso Roma in 1 kg and 500 g. Ground espresso, 250 g: Classico Napoli, Espresso Roma and Emozioni. Espresso Roma ground suits espresso machines and moka pots.
Bialetti
Bialetti, an Italian brand, makes moka pots and coffee for them. Perfetto Moka Classico is dark roasted in Italy, in a 250 g pack for the moka pot. Flavored moka ground includes Cioccolato, Vaniglia and Mandorla, and Bialetti also has a Tiramisu ground coffee. Dolce & Gabbana ground, 200 g, includes Blue Mediterraneo, Irresistibile and Audace. Capsules compatible with Nespresso Original: Cremoso, 10 capsules. ESE 44 mm pods, 50 pods: Intenso, Corposo and Cremoso. Bialetti moka pots include Moka Express 1, 2, 3 and 4 cup, La Mokina, Mini Express 2 cup and Fiammetta Induction 2 cup. Moka Express pots are aluminium. The pots are in moka pots.

- Portafilter espresso machine: whole beans from whole coffee beans, ground in a grinder, or espresso grind from espresso ground coffee.
- Moka pot: moka ground, or an espresso grind whose product page says it works in a moka pot. Bialetti moka pots are in moka pots.

What Italian coffee is made of
Italian espresso blends often include Robusta for body and crema. 100% Arabica tastes softer and more aromatic. The difference is spelled out in Arabica vs Robusta.
Examples from the product pages: Lavazza Qualità Rossa ground pairs South American Arabica with African and Southeast Asian Robusta. Caffè Borbone Crema Superiore is 80% Arabica and 20% Robusta, and Crema Classica beans, another South Italy blend, are 50/50. Caffè Vergnano 800 Espresso Crema is 80/20. Kimbo Extra Cream is 40% Arabica and 60% Robusta. Segafredo Espresso Roma beans are 70/30. Bialetti Perfetto Moka Classico is 50/50. What is Italian coffee made of?
Italian coffee is Arabica, Robusta or a blend of the two, and blends with some Robusta are common in Italian espresso. That Robusta gives a heavier body and a thicker crema, while 100% Arabica tastes softer and more aromatic. On the bags we sell, that shows up as mixes such as 80/20, 70/30, 50/50 and 40/60, and as 100% Arabica lines from Illy, Lavazza Espresso Italiano Classico, Kimbo Aroma Gold, Saquella and Caffè Borbone. How do I make Italian coffee at home?
Use the format that matches your machine. A portafilter espresso machine takes espresso ground, or whole beans ground in a grinder, and a shot is about 30 to 40 ml. For a moka pot, fill the bottom chamber with cold or room-temperature water up to the safety valve, fill the funnel with moka ground coffee without pressing it, heat on low to medium, and take it off the heat when the top chamber is full and it starts to gurgle. A capsule machine takes capsules compatible with Nespresso Original or Dolce Gusto, or Lavazza A Modo Mio or Illy Iperespresso capsules, depending on the machine. ESE pods go in an ESE machine. Instant is 1 to 2 teaspoons of Saquella Espresso Classical in a mug of hot water.
